Joint Activation

An induced joint is activated when it cracks and starts to open.

Technical Information

The time it will take for a joint to activate is quite hard to predict and is dependent on a number of factors such as the rate of slab shrinkage etc.

It is ideal for all induced joints in a slab to activate simultaneously as this helps ensure that no dominant joints form. However, this doesn’t always happen.
