Loads imposed on the slab by MHE must be considered as point loads from the wheels in the design process. According to Technical Report 34, the carrying capacity of MHE is not an adequate indicator of the loads it will apply to the floor. The load distribution and therefore the axle weights can vary significantly between loaded and unloaded conditions of the truck and the truck manufacturer’s data should be consulted.
Loads applied on the slab by very heavy MHE can be a defining load case in slab design.
The types of MHE used in warehouse operations is very varied, but typically would be Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) trucks, reach trucks and hand pallet trucks.
