Wide Aisle Racking System

Summary

Wide Aisle Racking System - Wide aisle racking is the simplest warehouse storage system available.

Technical Information

Wide Aisle Racking System

A wide aisle racking system consists of normal pallet racking (often placed back to back) with wide aisles running between. Typically, the aisles in this system are 2.5m – 4m wide and when defining floor flatness, they count as free movement areas.

It is a versatile storage option which has the following benefits:

  • There is no need to use specialised Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) or install the associated infrastructure (wire guidance etc.).
  • It allows for a greater selectivity of goods; because all goods are immediately accessible, it is possible to store a wider variety of goods than in drive-in racking, for example.
  • Multiple MHE can be comfortably used in the same aisle.

The main drawback of this system is that it uses a much smaller proportion of the warehouse space as actual storage space than other storage systems.
