Wide bay pours are a compromise between the advantages of long strip and large pours construction methods.
In practice, a greater degree of control is achieved on the floor flatness to allow a reduced level of remedial grinding to achieve a Defined Movement flatness classification than if the large pour method was adopted. The wide bay method allows this with less significant loss of speed or overall output when laying the slab, which is normally the case when employing the long strip method of construction.
The bays can either be jointed or jointless, depending on how the floor is supported and what it is reinforced with. Both types have formed joints between bays but jointed bays also have a grid of induced joints running through the bay.
