Chair / Spacer

Summary

Chair / Spacer - a small object used to support steel mesh reinforcement at a fixed elevation during the construction of a concrete slab.

Technical Information

Chair Spacer

The function of a chair / spacer is to stabilise mesh or bar reinforcement against the flow of concrete whilst it is being placed and ensure the reinforcement will remain at the designed height.

Failure to do so can result in structural problems for the slab.
They are usually made from steel wire, plastic or concrete.

Guidance on how to arrange chairs can be found in Technical Report 34.
