The use of continuous plate dowels is not recommended as they have been shown to be weak in resisting bursting shear. It is also difficult to fully and adequately compact the concrete below the plate dowel, so the chance of voiding occurring is significantly increases.
This type of dowel has been superseded by the more useful discrete plate dowel in the UK. However, they are still sometimes used elsewhere in the world.
