Floor Cleaning

Summary

Floor Cleaning - A regular cleaning regime is an essential part of the maintenance of a concrete floor during its working life.

Technical Information

Floor Cleaning

Allowing dust, dirt and debris to build up can lead to increased surface wear through abrasion and also increase the risk of slips and trips.

The frequency with which cleaning is required depends on the operation and the level of contamination expected within the warehouse. A regular and robust cleaning routine will help prolong the life of an industrial floor.

Spillages should be wiped up as quickly as possible; not only because of the slip risk posed by liquid on the floor, but to minimise staining and attack for any chemicals that may be present in the liquid.

It is important to avoid using acidic or alkaline cleaning agents as these can cause damage to the floor over time. It is also important to use cleaning products in the correct concentration and follow the manufacturers instructions.

The removal of tyre marks caused by Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) can be difficult and often requires the surface sealer to be removed and replaced. Therefore, it is recommended to use MHE with non-marking wheels, especially at turning locations. Marking can also occur due to skidding and acceleration interaction with the surface floor sealer.
