Pitch

Summary

Pitch - Pitch is a term used to describe the spacing between bars in mesh reinforcement or the distance between loose bar reinforcement.

Technical Information

The pitch of a sheet of mesh reinforcement directly affects how much reinforcement the mesh provides per metre width of slab cross section; the larger the pitch, the less reinforcement is provided.

Usually, the pitch of mesh reinforcement will fall in the range of 100-500mm. The pitch is not necessarily the same in the x and y directions, although in a large floor slab, it usually is.

It is important that the pitch remains constant across laps so that a uniform level of reinforcement is maintained throughout the whole slab.
