Reinforcement

Summary

Reinforcement - is added to concrete to improve its performance. The majority of reinforcement types using in industrial floor slabs increases the slabs bending moment resistance and therefore its load carrying capacity.

Technical Information

Concrete Reinforcement

Steel fabric, steel fibre and macro fibre reinforcement all improve the slabs tensile resistance to load once the concretes tensile resistance has been exceeded (the concretes tensile elastic strength is exceeded). This is sometimes referred to as a post cracking enhancement as the reinforcement is only activated once a crack has formed, this cracking may however be at a micro level and not visible.

Micro synthetic fibres do not enhance the tensile resistance of a slab but do act to improve the abrasion and impact resistance of a section.
