Eurocodes

Summary

Eurocodes - are harmonised codes of practice for the design of structures within Europe.

Technical Information

In March 2010, Eurocodes became the mandatory specification for all public works in Europe.

It was intended that the Eurocodes would become a standard for private sector works, however UK companies still use the British Standard.

In the UK, a UK-specific annex to the Eurocodes needs to be used in conjunction with whichever Eurocode is being used.

The Eurocodes relevant to the design of concrete flooring are:

  • Eurocode 0 – Basis of Structural Design.
  • Eurocode 1 – Actions on Structures.
  • Eurocode 2 – Design of Concrete Structures.
  • Eurocode 7 – Geotechnical Design
  • Eurocode 8 – Design of Structures for Earthquake Resistance.
