Summary
Flow Table Test - The flow table test is a test carried out on freshly mixed concrete to ascertain its workability.
Technical Information
The flow table test can show how workable a fresh concrete mix is and how prone a concrete mix is to segregation, before it is placed.
For the common test procedure:
- Concrete is poured and compacted into a hollow conical frustum, which stands on a hinged flow table.
- The frustum is steadily removed from around the concrete.
- The slab is raised at its free end to a specified height (40mm) and dropped fifteen times, in a space of fifteen seconds
- After the test is finished, two diameter readings are taken to determine the flow of the concrete in mm.
If there is a ring of cement paste around the perimeter of the sample, the mix is prone to segregation.
The equipment and procedure for this test are standardised so that all results from flow table tests are calibrated in the same way.
