A slab-on-ground is supported on the subsoil and is usually reinforced with reinforcing bars, welded wire mesh or steel fibres. A suspended slab spans between supports and must be reinforced to resist bending moments calculated on the magnitude of load and span.
A slab has to be adequate to support the proposed loads, have sufficient durability to withstand the day to day usage and meet the flatness and levelness requirements for the Materials Handling Equipment (MHE) or materials storage solution.
