Wide Bay Construction - This method can be considered as a hybrid between the large pour and long strip methods.
Technical Information
Bays are cast in widths up to 15m wide with formed free movement joints at the edges. Joints are sawn to split these strips into 6m panels, sawn joints are required in both directions. Strip lengths are limited by the building size or the volume of concrete available to the contractor for a continuous operation.
The strips can be cast either using a laser screed working across the 15m strips or using a more traditional screed as used in the long strip method.
As the forms can be set to high tolerances and using bump cutting across the strips it is possible to achieve floors with reasonably high flatness tolerances that require limited spot grinding to achieve Defined movement classification. However this technique requires an experienced contractor to achieve these results.
