These trucks can either be pulled manually or powered by an engine. They are a common and economical method used to move pallets from one point of a warehouse to another. However, they do not have the capacity to lift pallets more than a few inches off the floor so cannot be used to stack pallets or place them on racking.
They can be controlled by workers by riding on them or walking alongside.
Floor surfaces on which this equipment operates should be flat and have a good standard of levelness, particularly across joints. Joints are more susceptible to damage from the small hard wheels on this type of equipment. Therefore, the arrises must be properly protected when a joint is going to be trafficked by pallet trucks.
