Summary

PPE - Personal Protective Equipment is worn by operatives in construction to protect themselves from on-site hazards.

Technical Information

Legally when someone works on-site they are required to wear some form or protective equipment. In its simplest form it could just be steel capped boots, high visibility vest/ jacket and a hard hat; in riskier tasks more PPE would be necessary and perhaps even constructed to a higher standard.

Examples of PPE include:

  • Hard hat
  • High visibility clothing
  • Steel capped, anti-slip boots
  • Protective gloves
  • Protective clothing
  • RPE
  • Safety glasses
  • Ear defenders
  • Knee pads
  • Face mask / respiratory equipment

PPE is considered the last control measure to be taken to reduce personal injury and it only protects the wearer, whilst being worn.
