Overslab

Summary

Overslab - Concrete layer constructed on, and commonly debonded from a hardened concrete base slab to provide a wearing surface.

Technical Information

Floor slab overlay construction is commonly used to improve the surface quality of existing floor slabs. Overlays commonly take the form of bonded or unbonded construction.

Bonded overlay floor slabs are typically constructed to thicknesses of 20-40mm. Consideration of construction tolerances is needed to defined finished floor levels to ensure a minimum thickness of 20mm is maintained throughout. The effectiveness and performance of the bonding mechanism is critical. Industry guidance and specialist technical advice should be gained to design such floor types.
